Text Box: Christie Petersen never thought she’d be a television star.  Then the 1997 Hamilton Southeastern graduate was contacted by the Helen Wells agency, which needed former NCAA student-athletes now in successful careers and giving back to the community.  It was for a televised thank you from the National Collegiate Athletic Association to its sponsors for making them not only good athletes, but also good citizens.
The 27-year old Petersen, a former Ball State University tennis player who is now a graduate architect with Brenner Design in Indianapolis, fit the bill.  She appeared in a TV spot in March 2006.

Text Box: “It’s really well done,” Petersen said.  “I’m not the only athlete featured.  It shows someone in their retirement years with grandkids and another who’s my age and an attorney and so on.  They’re going to keep the commercial and run it for several years.”
Filming her part was quite the experience.  A crew of about 30 with a huge moving van of equipment met Petersen at her office.  Petersen was clothed from their wardrobe selections, and her hair and makeup were done.  They shot her at her desk drawing in her computer and also by hand.
Although the crew filmed for a good four hours, Petersen appears in the finished product only for about three seconds.  “Don’t blink or you might miss me,” she said.  Petersen said to look for her near the middle of the TV spot.  She is shown sitting at her desk as the camera zooms in and then cuts to her computer screen.
